The System
Author: Roy Valentine
Reviewer: Chris Murray
Reviewers rating: 7/10 User rating: n/a
Synopsis: The System is not your typical dating book. Instead, it's a step by step guide for guys who just want to get laid. The book will tell you exactly how to: approach girls, avoid rejection, what to say and much more, including perhaps most importantly, how to make the final move. This book will take you inside the mind of a successful player and change your world of dating. Reviewers comments: First thing's first, any book that tells you 'step by step' how to get any woman into bed with you simply cannot deliver. If you're expecting this then you really have been out of the game too long. I'm not saying this book can't help you, I just want to make sure you live on this planet. However, Roy Valentine has, in general, produced quite a good read, the book isn't your typical 'treat em mean, keep em keen' arrogant assault on women. The objective is still to get laid, but it somehow feels like a fresh approach. Valentine introduces 'the girl game' and how you can stop them winning, he talks of real life experience, both successful and unsuccessful, he points out flaws in what you might normally try (did you even consider how competitive nightclubs are?) and does so in a book that feels as though it has the reader's interest at heart. Most books written by the standard 'player' often seem like they're nothing more than somebody bragging over hundreds of pages of egotistical babble that wouldn't work for your average Joe (and probably not for most 'players'). What's worse is that they trick you into paying for it! Valentine's book has a touch of the arrogance that you expect, but much less of the rubbish advice and much more helpful tips, which for my money is what counts. He's able to give you some insight into how girls think and act, how most guys think and act and most importantly, how most guys should think and act. This "should" think and act, that's the mindset of a 'player'. This book doesn't represent players as 'jerks' or 'meatheads', it puts them in a different light and explains how to be successful and respectful with women. This means that if you're not already a player (which is likely if you're buying this book) then you can become one without becoming a horrible person or completely compromising who you are. Sadly, the book is far from perfect and there are some negatives. The first 20 pages for example, just do not belong in this book. They belong in another meathead's book. These are bragging pages. They are not worth reading. I know it's important that the author gives you confidence in his ability to attract women, but how much is too much? Its 20 pages, 20 pages is too much. And if installing confidence in future disciples was his goal, it was lost on me from numerous spelling mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, but there are so many it seems like nobody has proof read the thing. The list of recipes at the end somewhat split my opinion. They may be the perfect meals to get women to sleep with you, but I didn't buy a cookbook. I bought a dating book, and the arrogant bragging prologue above each recipe wasn't enough to make me sprint to the kitchen and throw on my chef's hat. The main ingredients of the book however were quite satisfying. Roy Valentine knows that his focus is to help you get laid and aside from the introduction and slight Gordon Ramsey delusions, that's what this book does. There's confidence there in large amounts, but not to the point of annoying arrogance. It's just the natural attitude of a successful player. His stories of success and failure give you some real life situations to picture yourself in (although not all of us will be lucky enough to be jogging along a tropical beach looking for beautiful women).
