Man Magnet - How to Be the Best Woman You Can Be in Order to Get the Best Man.
Author: Romy Miller
Reviewer: Alice George
Reviewers rating: 2/10 User rating: 4/10
Synopsis: Women everywhere want their fairytale man - the one that they see in the movies and the one who sweeps them off their feet at the end of a romantic novel. It's fate that he'll be found, right? Wrong. Romy Miller believes it is this kind of pressure from the media combined with our genetic destiny to produce children that lands us with all kinds of terrible men as opposed to the right ones. Some women can't even seem to attract this kind. What's the solution? Miller suggests by following her advice you can become a 'Man Magnet' and have your pick of all of the good men. This 'man magnet' can not only have any man she wants (because guys go ga-ga for her) but she’s just so because she knows how to be sexy and confident by utilizing what she’s got. Ready to be unstoppable? Then join the dating game by picking up Man Magnet – How to be The Best Woman you can be in order to get The Best Man. Reviewers comments: Don't be fooled by the bright pink cover and simplistic look - the phrase 'never judge a book by its cover' has never been so true. The book looks quite inviting with its 142 page volume and promising advice about how it can tell you 'how to be the best woman you can be in order to get the best man' - but as far as dating goes, online dating (it's quite old fashioned, this doesn't even come into discussion) or otherwise, it’s offensive, old fashioned and unhelpful. I shall start with the introduction. It's pretty much like an extended version of the blurb on the back, therefore pointless and consequently a poor introduction to a book - it does not inspire you to read further and find out about the advice it is claiming to offer. As for the book itself it sort of seems to follow this pattern, like one of those annoying online adverts that claims if you read it you will find out how to 'get white teeth!' or 'lose three pounds of belly fat a week!' by ‘following one simple rule’ that you never actually find out because after reading pages and pages of the same thing, they end up asking you to pay an extortionate amount. Do you even care about the rule by this point? Or are you just frustrated at the author? This book is exactly the same. Having just finished it, I’m still so mad at ‘Romy Miller’ that I’m not even going to be diplomatic about my criticism – it's just bad. Sorry Romy. Just like you, I’m ‘not going to hold any punches’. There are some cracking lines in it, take, for example: 'men are great but are they really worth it?' Now that is contradiction at its best. This book is about men and how to attract them, after exhausting all that energy, you’d bloody hope they were Romy Miller. This said however, there is something in the way of good advice concealed beneath the gibberish, poor dating tactics and total disregard for women's rights (really, Germaine Greer would have a heart attack reading this) and that is simply the idea of common sense – ie: leave your career at home, enhance your best features, be personable, if you're looking for a serious relationship don’t boast about your sexual conquests or give it up on the first date and so on. Reading between the lines, this book can help to a certain extent, but whether this is deliberate or not is questionable. The final chapter is one about breaking up. Why? Get your ideal man, then dump him, become a total whore and find another. Romy Miller claims to be married, but honestly, I'd be surprised, particularly if she followed her own advice.
